how to leave just eat

How to leave Just Eat
without losing orders.

To leave Just Eat safely: read your contract for notice and exit terms, set up your own ordering website first, tell your regulars where to order direct, watch the split for a few weeks, and only then end or reduce the marketplace. Doing it in that order protects your Friday night.

Step 1: read your contract

Find the notice period, any minimum term and what happens to your listing and menu when you leave. We are not lawyers and cannot read your contract for you; if anything is unclear, ask the marketplace to confirm it in writing before you act.

Step 2: build your own ordering first

Do not cancel and then build. Put your menu on your own ordering website and app, with the same dishes and prices as the marketplace, and test it with staff and friends. A menu built to be ordered from, with required choices and a clear checkout, matters more than anything else on this list.

Step 3: move your regulars, not your whole business

Put a card in every bag

A short card with your website and a QR code, so the next order can come direct.

A link on the receipt

Counter and delivery receipts carry your ordering address.

Answer the phone with it

When regulars ring, tell them they can order on your own site and it goes straight to the kitchen.

Reward the direct order

Credit back for direct orders gives people a reason to use your site instead of the app.

Step 4: watch it, then decide

For a few weeks, compare direct orders against marketplace orders on your till's one queue, where each order carries a badge for where it came from. Many shops keep the marketplace for new customers and stop worrying about the regulars.

If you do decide to end it, do it when your own site is carrying the orders and not before.

Customer details held by a marketplace are governed by its own terms and the law, so ask it what it will share. Orders placed on your own site carry details that your shop controls.
